ASSOCIATION INAGURATION

ASSOCIATION INAGURATION of English Department was held on 15^th January2014 at 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Sri M.G SASI, the short film director was the chief guest of the occasion. Welcome speech made by Jisha, 4th sem B.A English student. Then the inaugural speech was made by Sri M.G SASI. He gave a golden chance to us by giving permission to watch his documentary named ‘Thizhil Kendrathileke’. The theme of the documentary was women empowerment. Through which he used to choose the best content for us. The documentary revealed many messages such as women are not the puppet of men, they will have their own identity, the patriarchal family will not be allowed, the dowry system should be prohibited, women have the right to work, the women have to protest against the upper hand of the women, they will have to recognize the value and dignity of women etc

After the visualization of documentary there was an interaction section of students with Sri M.G.SASI. Not only students but also teachers including from various departments participated in the programme. Students and teachers actively participated in it. Among the students many of them cleared their doubts, agreed and disagreed with some points in the documentary.

Our teachers including Radha Miss, Sangeetha Miss, Krishna Miss and Meera Miss also joined in the interaction section. One of our students opinioned that, “it will be a double burden for women to be a Home maker and Job holder at the same time”. He replied that education and job make women to become independent and this quality help women to be a good home maker.

Another student opined that, “the word dependency should not be used along with women, if we say women is depending ‘Thozhil Kendram’ then  ‘Thozhil Kendram’ became a synonym for men.” Sri M.G. SASI supported and appreciated for that kind of thought.

Finally mufeeda, association secretary of English department gave vote of thanks for the function. It was the end of the excellent ceremony. We thanking and appreciated  all of  them, who organized this programme.

HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY

Head of the state always elected directly or indirectly for a fixed period therefore the term REPUBLIC in our Preamble indicates that India has an elected head called the President, he elected indirectly for fixed period of five year.

Republic also meant,

Ø Vesting political sovereignty in the people not individual.

Ø There is no privilege to any one the public officers open to

 every citizen without any discrimination

 **    Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is to be the chief guest at this year’s Republic Day Parade.  **

Thozhi Kendrathileke - a review

Our Association inauguration was held on 15^TH January, 2014 (Wednesday). There had an unexpected arrival of M.G Sasi with a documentary of his drama ‘Thozhil Kendrathileke’. He was one of the member of many prestigious profession and learning organization. His work gives awareness about the bitter life of women in Namboothiri communities. Hence about eight characters like Devasena,Devaki,Parvathi etc.were articulate their own needs and desires.

Through these eminent characters he gave a new sense of direction to women empowerment. By means of this documentary, it seems that the suppressed life of Namboothiri women under their husband. These weren’t any considerations for women. Women were discarded from every facility. In all respects, women haven’t right to study in adolescence and take decision.

The old Namboothiri women like Akatholamma,Bharghavi,Sridevi kannampally who saying their experience in between the scene were gave a opportunity to more understanding. The drama deals with the evil faces of both the child marriage and dowry system. After the entire cruelty the whole women characters were decided to show their will power. They determined to go into Thozhilkendram. By means of this they can reduce the unemployment problem of Namboothiri women. Ultimately the drama brought the seeds of new thoughts including Dowry System, Men Domination, Women Empowerment, Child Marriage etc.

EXPERIENCE OF HOSTING

Our English Department organized a two day regional seminar on Post millennium Literature on last week of September, 2013.

Post Millennium Literature is one of the important programme organized by our Department. Teachers gave a chance to us to host this programme.It was a great challenge to us because of 3 reasons;

ü  It was our responsibility to make this programme a successful one.

ü  We invited many guests from various colleges and universities, so it’s our duty to keep our dignity in front of them.

ü  Our seniors hosted many programmes before this, so we had a desire to prove our skill infrot of them.

We divided our Responsibility into 3R.

      REGISTRATION

      REFRESHMENT

On the first day Reception and registration section were conducted smoothly. But we fail to make sufficient tea for our guests in the refreshment section and it was a great fault from us. We realized that we used our knowledge instead of wisdom in the refreshment section. We felt shame on ourselves when we bowed our head in front of our guest.

 

In the second day of Post Millennium Literature seminar, we started reception and registration section again. We plan to make the section better than the last day. In the second day we are well prepared for the refreshment section half an hour ago. We supplied sufficient tea and snacks for our guest and the so funniest thing is that there is a cup of tea remained for us. We had a silent struggle for that, finally we shared it equally. We gave nice lunch for our guest as we did in the first day and we enjoyed a lot than the first day.

 

As we are free from the afternoon section we hurry to prepare the certificates of those who participated in the seminar. We finished our work before the section end and we handed over it to our HOD Babu Sir for distribution. As soon as the programme finish we rearranged     the chairs in the Conference Hall. We replaced the chairs back to auditorium.

 

When two day seminar is conducted we stared in to the third floor to a countless time. Even we felt very tired, we are so proud of finishing our task successfully.

We are thanking our teachers for giving such an experience in our life……………….
